Our Rating:
I keep hearing and reading that the 80s are making a comeback. It’s hardly news: the 80s revival is tipped to happen every other year and has been for the last decade now. While there have been the occasional signs that it might actually happen on few occasions – the current high-street fashions, for example, and the emergence of The Bravery, etc., a few years back, and, maybe, Defend Moscow this year if they break through, it’s never really taken off.

Cass McCoombs couldn’t be further from the 80s revival trail with this new single. Featuring Karen Black – yes, of ‘Easy Rider’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ and, well, many, many notable films – on second vocal, ‘Dreams-Come-True-Girl’ may have some irritating hyphens, but also possesses an uplifting, dreamlike quality. Drenched in analogue reverb, its gentle skiffle beat and soaring vocals are straight out of the 60s and reminiscent of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison.
