Review: 'EASTERLING, WYATT'
'WHERE THE RIVER GOES'

-  Label: 'High Horse Records'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '20th April 2009'-  Catalogue No: '#3395'

Our Rating:
The peaceful, easy going flow of Easterling's voice is very James Taylor as is the mellow, romantic mood that pervades these ten tracks.

This is most pronounced on the song 'Sometimes you need a friend' which has obvious ties with Taylor's cover of Carole King's 'You've Got A Friend'.

Wyatt Easterlings says : "I'm a songwriter with deep country and folk ties; I like to write little vignettes about everyday life. I confess to loving heartbreaking ballads".

This is evident in these mature and reflective meditations on life and love. The overriding philosophy of the ten tracks is that of taking life as it comes, facing up to the rough or smooth and going with the flow. This is encapsulated in the line "Some bridges you cross and some you burn" from 'Sounds Like Life To Me' where he duets with the sweet voiced Jessi Colter Jennings.

They are well crafted songs, all self-penned apart from a laid-back cover of Tony Joe White's standard 'Rainy Night in Georgia'.

To some, Easterling will represent the finest qualities of Nashville Americana, but for yours truly he also embodies why we need the feistier energy of true 'Alternative' country.
