Review: 'FIGHT LIKE APES'
'SOMETHING GLOBAL'

-  Label: 'MODEL CITIZEN'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '22nd June 2009'-  Catalogue No: 'MODCIT9'

Our Rating:
With the demise of Be Your Own Pet last year, the disaffected teens might be on the lookout for a new satirical brat-rock to speak directly to them. They could do worse than checking out ‘Fight Like Apes,’ who aren’t quite as acerbic as BYOP, but do a neat line in electro-punk from this side of the Atlantic. ‘Something Global’ sounds like Sugababes being mugged by the kids they shunned at schools, it has an instantly catchy chorus and the sense that it should be never be taken too seriously.

A very entertaining cover of Mckusky’s ‘Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues’ supports their rock credentials perfectly, sounding much better than perhaps it should, full of spunk in a non-innuendo sense. Frontwoman MayKay has a storming voice on this track, spitting out the words in the spirit of the original.

When they rock, they really rock, but with their pop sensibilities in tact, they can expect to appeal to more than just the outcasts.
