Review: 'Discovery'
'So Insane'

-  Label: 'XL Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '20th July 2009'

Our Rating:
What the hell? Smooth soul vocals and silky harmonies change key and direction at the strangest of points over a drum-machine track composed of an arbitrary and random selection of different rhythms that only share one common element – a snare drum that’s twice the volume of the rest of the sounds. There are tempo changes every few bars and the end result is.... well, horrible.

The objective is, apparently, ‘an embrace and also a commentary on the pop charts of the past decade, of booming 808 bass and jittery sixteenth-note high-hats; elements of European Electronic dance music skittering in double-time over steady R&B.'

The actuality is a nasty mess that sounds like it’s been cobbled together from fragments by a couple of buffoons with no skills in either music or programming who’ve smoked some really strong skunk and hijacked the studio for a couple of hours before being ejected, their clunkingly inept and ill-conceived project incomplete.

Really, some discoveries should be kept private.
