Review: 'WOW SIGNAL, THE'
'INFINITY'S LOBBY'

-  Label: 'White'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '4th May 2009'

Our Rating:
The Wow Signal are based in London but come from all corners of the globe - singer-songwriter and guitarist Andrew Mangold is American, lead guitarist Paolo Kralj is Italian, bassist Dmytriy Afanasyev is Ukranian and drummer Darren Lee is Australian.
Mangold's vocals are like a grumpy Ziggy-era Bowie, a 70s connection that extends to the band's name which comes from an unexplained alien communication picked up on radio telescopes during that decade.

What they pitch as "epic, gut wrenching alternative rock" is , in truth, not particularly alternative.

They go through the motions efficiently enough and have a tight sound but no track leaps out as being original or memorable.

The band are not heavy enough to count a hard rockers or rebellious enough to be punks. Theirs is such a dense and dour sound that it's nigh on impossible to gauge what these songs are about.

I could only say that Mangold seems pissed off by global politicians (They Got It Wrong) and to harbour a dislike of home decorating (The little things in life). I'm with him on both counts but that doesn't mean this is a record I would recommend.
