Review: 'REAL ESTATE'
'Fake Blues'

-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '20th July 2009'-  Catalogue No: 'HMR014'

Our Rating:
I seem to recall reviewing a single by a band called Titus Andronicus many moons ago. Now, I'm not sure if it's the same Titus Andronicus that guitarist / vocalist of Real Estate used to be in (but really, how many bands can you think of with that name?), but I also seem to recall not minding what TA were doing, and I can't say I find myself having any problems with US 4-piece Real Estate's UK debut either.

'Fake Blues' is lo-fi post rock, built upon a chiming guitar-line with an oriental vibe and gentle, loping rhythm drenched in a typically post-rock reverb. Despite the lyrics being - as far as I can tell - largely inconsequential, 'Fake Blues' drifts by pleasingly, and I can't help but rather like it.

Flipside 'Green River' begins with a greater sense of urgency, the tinny, reverb-laden guitars jangling and mostly burying both the percussion and desperate vocals, which again are buried in echo... and then it's all over in a minute and 58 seconds and while I've no idea what the song's about, I feel like I've actually experienced something - a howl of angst perhaps - although it's hard to tell because of the cacophony of echo and treble, but I rather like it anyway.
