There’s always reason to get emotional about Dinosaur JR isn’t there? The sheer power of the grunge chords and heavy footed drumming with screaming chorus always does it for me.
Their new single Pieces is no different. It is after all a band doing what they do best creating an awe-inspiring racket. The greatness here lies with the distorted guitar and the achingly pain filled vocals. Dinosaur JR could never disappoint and defiantly have not here. J Mascis's solos are mind bending and there is something quite beautiful yet sinister about this. Imagine a horrific car crash where the body parts hit the floor and create a perfect heart shape on the blood stained tarmac. Deep? Haunting? You bet your arse it is.
