Our Rating:
Aahh! They don't make 'em like this anymore, do they? The immortally-named DEAD SHORES hail from the mysterious central Lancashire hinterland, have apparently been scaring the bejaysus out of live audiences for a whopping seven years and have finally taken the DIY plunge with a single on the self-explanatory Just Good Records label.

Despite the seven years, it's probably fair to say that 'Modern Man' is only 'long-awaited' debut in terms of the band's local following, but that's not to say it isn't welcome. Indeed, 'Modern Man' is the sort of scabrous indie racket we're still crying out for. It's a wittily-honed, spiteful spew of vitriol aimed at chappies whose whole raison d'etre appears to be to impress the less cerebrally-inclined females out there with their FCUK shirts, gym memberships and "silly little man bags." Or, as the pointed terrace chorus says so cogently:" Modern men are always on the sunbeds!"

Nominal B-side 'Sick & Tired', meanwhile, is a detailed litany of what pisses singer Crag off on a daily basis, with everything from Weetabix to MySpace and the " M fuckin' 6!" getting a damn good kicking along the way. It comes with a sack of King Edwards planted on its' shoulder, its' tongue recessed firmly in its' cheek and is the sort of rabid railing against the blandness we need like H20 in these grey, depressed times.

So, in nutshell, what do the mighty Dead Shores sound like after seven years of toil? Basically, like an unholy alliance of Half Man Half Biscuit, Yeah Yeah Noh and the much-missed Serious Drinking. Like I said before, they don't make 'em like this anymore. More's the pity.
