It might've been out a little while, but this EP has only just made its way to me - and I have to say I'm extremely glad it has.
The title track's a tense - and intense - affair, with a monotonous distorted guitar loop collides with frenetic drumming and discordant chimes, the unsettling strangeness topped with a distorted, rasping vocal reminiscent of Al Jourgensen on 'Stigmata.' It makes for uncomfortable listening, in the best possible way. The same is true of the creepy 'Snow Burning,' that evokes scary children in horror flicks, at least until the trip-hop drumming kicks in. 'Summer Bubbles' is altogether different, a light, breezy piano-led track, what would be classic chilled electro were it not for the mood being disrupted by discord and wailing babies.

To say that Whizz Kid - the collective moniker for j-kane and Yo Yo Nielsen - defy genre categorisation would be beyond the realms of mere understatement. Avant-garde electronic genius might be a more apt way of defining what they're about. Found sounds and samples are packed in and used in the most inventive of ways across the whole of the EP, but from the kicking drum 'n' bass beats to the glitchy, clattering and less usual percussion, there's always an ear for rhythm, which gives the recording a groove - a warped, offbeat kinda groove, but a groove nevertheless.
