Review: 'Exlovers'
'You Forget So Easily EP'

-  Label: 'Chess Club Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '14th September 2009'

Our Rating:
An arty black and white photograph of a serious-looking young man with a cigarette in his mouth adorns the cover of this EP. Such an image creates a certain expectation regarding what lies within. Moody, brooding, dark, rebellious, angsty, antagonistic, perhaps? A bit emo, maybe?

Not so. The five tracks contained therein are melodic, light indie-pop. And while 'Incomplete' is at the bouncier, more high-powered end of the indie-pop spectrum, the EP's overall sound is predominantly of a more jangly persuasion. Stephen Street's production is perfect for capturing the style, and in combination with the three mentions of Pete Doherty in the press release, it's fairly easy to get a handle on Exlovers' main points of reference.
