Conner is classically trained pianist and self taught guitar, accordion & harmonica player.
He has a pleasant voice and what his promoters call "a million dollar smile", but neither compensates for the weakness of the material on this 7 track EP.
Recorded in Tucson, Arizona, the country tinged tunes are played slickly enough with some nifty pedal steel guitar from Rich Brennion but Conner doesn't stamp any unique personality on these forgettable songs.
Gram Parsons' real name was Cecil Ingram Connor III which makes me wonder whether Conner chose an alias to make some connection with his hero. This suspicion is backed up by the fact that the EP closes with a cover of Parsons' 'Juanita' featuring guest vocals from Kerryn Tolhurst.
Parsons was only 26 when he died and Conner Cecil is in his mid 20s, no other comparisons hold up as musically there's a huge gulf between the two.
