Review: 'HEADS WE DANCE'
'Take My Picture'

-  Label: 'Gash Digital'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '14th December 2009'

Our Rating:
One time 'most blogged about band in the world' (albeit only for a week) Heads We Dance are going all out with a double A-side comprising 'Take My Picture' and 'After Dark.' Now, the fact I've not heard of Heads We Dance is less of an issue than the questionable nature of a double-A side in a download world, and for a download-only release. Perhaps I'm just too pedantic for my own good, or perhaps I really am missing the point.

No matter: in the same way that Lady Ga Ga churns out songs that you'd rather jab hot knitting needles (or pokers, perhaps) through your eardums than hear again, 'Take My Picture' is the kind of slickly-produced, self-focused club-friendly electropop bump 'n' grind that you'd probably find irritating and forgettable the first time you heard it on the radio, but after having it assail your ears for a few weeks, would become an earworm that's impossible to dislodge.

There's nothing subtle about it: the female vocals tell the girl's perspective as she picks the perfect dress to hit the town and attract maximum attention, while the male vocals are delivered from the standpoint of a sleaze that demonstrates her tactic's worked. 'Oh let me get your clothes off / we'll got all the way,' he smarms in response to her call of 'I've got what you want / you've got what I need, yeah.'

Do I like it? No. Did I find it becoming increasingly difficult to resist during the course of coming up with this review? Yes. Bastards.

Oh, and the video's hilarious, although I'm not sure it's intentionally so....
