Review: 'MICACHU & THE SHAPES'
'Turn Me Well'

-  Label: 'Rough Trade'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '12th October 2009'

Our Rating:
A little belated, this, but it's been a pretty good year for Micachu, and it seems only fitting that the dazzling 'Jewellery' album should yield up another single by way of demonstrating the brilliantly quirky eclecticism that makes Micachu such an exciting proposition.

Beginning with the sound of a vacuum cleaner, 'Turn Me Well' is a sparse, quirky assemblage of a song. Yet for all its strangeness, it's still a pop song, and a great one at that.

The Marc Withasee 'Turn Me Ill' remix is a dubby take on the original, skittering drums echoed all over while beeps, bleeps and glitches wriggle around over the stop/start cut-up he's performed, and to good effect. Once again, a triumph for one of the most idiosyncratic bands to have emerged in recent years.
