Did this offering get stuck in the post? And for how long? Twenty years, perhaps? This isn't actually all that bad but it just sounds so dated with its post-industrial, very early Depeche Mode signature and production values which make it sound like it has been flattened by an elephant - and a very fat one at that.
That said, Vlad the Vocalist is refreshingly mournful. He simply offers no concession to drug-induced dance joy in this drum-machine driven electro-pop. "As the casket door shuts tight" is a candidate for the Least Likely Lyric To Be Sung at Closing Time Award of 2003, which only adds to the odd Goth-type appeal of the Mystic Underground.
It's all very anachronistic but not unlikeable. Whether a pot of money and a big name DJ could propel it into the 21st century is another matter.
