Our Rating:
...and so here I have four remixes of the track 'Beautiful But Weird,' a song I've never heard by a act I'm unfamiliar with. But the whole point of doing this is to listen objectively - without prejudice, if you will - and report for the benefit of the potential listening public.

A funky electro bassline propels the Clouded Vision remix. In many respects, it's a huge step backwards, in that it sounds for all the world like the kind of 12" instrumental dance mix that became ubiquitous in the 80s. still, the world seems to be in an 80s timewarp, and it's not a bad example of its kind, which is more than can be said for the King Roc remix, which features the breathy vocals of Barbara Alcindor and a clubby dance beat and not a lot else. Sparse, stripped back, it's Madonna's 'Erotica' without the sleaze or the style.

The Sasse instrumental is a seven-minute yawn, and it's a relief to arrive at the radio edit, from which I learn that the original is a spacey, laid-back number that's ok, neither particularly beautiful nor remotely weird, doesn't really do much, and isn't nearly as much fun as the Clouded Vision version.

DJ MAG may love it, but I really can't get excited by it.
