Review: 'TIN SOLDIERS'
'Just What I Needed'

-  Label: 'On the Run Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '2nd November 2009'

Our Rating:
'Is it really?' I find myself asking. Is it really just what I needed? Melodic-vocalled power pop with a driving guitar sound isn't exactly in short supply after all. Do I need a song about 'chasing that elusive source of inspiration and stumbling across it when you've all but given up'? I mean, don't I need a holiday? A new pair of boots? To pay my credit card bills? A new job? Call me an ingrate, but there are many things I need far more than another band, who are, to all intents and purposes, just another band.

All things considered, on the strength of 'Just What I Needed,' Tin Soldiers aren't a bad band by any stretch. They've certainly got more edge and bite than many of their peers, the guitars more driving and prominent. Consequently, it would have been a pleasant surprise for me to discover that, actually, yes, this was just what I needed. But needs and wants should never be confused...
