Our Rating:
You might thing you have no prior knowledge of EUGENE & THE LIZARDS, but you'll probably already be familiar with the 'Eugene' in question as he's none other than oddball Scouse singer/ songwriter Eugene McGuinness and with his amphibiously-monikered new charges he's back in business.

And sounding in bloody rude health, come to that, for his downloadable new single 'Bugjuice' is an absolute corker. Powered along by Dick Dale-catches-a-'Night Boat to Cairo' surf guitars and nervous, skittery drums, it's blood-curdlingly infectious pop fun with a zombie B-movie fixation and absolutely none the worse for that.

Nominal flip side, 'I Want Action' is a smart contender too. It's slightly more recognisable linear guitar pop with a generous melodic bleed and an otherworldliness which is potent and attractive. In this age of 'tracks' and 'downloads' it's 'B-side' status is virtually irrelevant, so suffice to say it easily impresses on its' own terms.

To seal the deal, visit www.eugenemcguinness.net where you can check out the 'Bugjuice' video. Shot by Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern (previously responsible for Blur's 'No Distance Left to Run'), it's a suitably wonky and intense affair with an almost 'Blair Witch' vibe: all staring eyes, silhouettes and McGuinness apparently puking swallows. It's terrific stuff and certainly qualifies as this writer's Tingle of the Week.
