The genius of New Order is that they realised that introspective lyrics went just as well with disco beats as they did with Shoegaze rock.
Nobody has bothered to head up to Lincoln, Nebraska to tell the three guys from For Against this news. Here they are, still Emo after all these years, ploughing the same furrow established by Factory records in the 1980s.
Formed in 1984, they are now into their 9th album. When singer Jeffrey Runnings laments "I've lost all faith in self belief" ('Of A Time") it surely cannot be autobiographical.
The opening track, Sameness, has some obscure lines about "mute duality" and is described as containing "anthemic passages on a regretful masquerade". If you have even the remotest clue what this might sound like, this could be the album for you.

In fairness, it's not all dirge and doom as they rock effectively, notably of the best track, Antidote.
This is not a bad album, but it just seems so out of time that it's hard to imagine it making much of an impact in the current musical landscape .
On the Joy Divison like You Fade, which closes the album, the line "congratulations in your survival skills" seems very apt.
