Review: 'ORGAN BEATS, THE'
'SLEEP WHEN YOU ARE DEAD'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '1st January 2010'

Our Rating:
From the rousing opening chords of the first track (The Chilly Breeze of May), it's obvious that this Boston trio mean business. They play fast and furious Indie power pop barely giving the listener time to draw breath as they race briskly through 9 tunes in the space of just over 35 minutes.

The driving force behind The Organ Beats is Noelle Lebanc on lead guitar and feisty vocals. She cut her teeth with the hard rock band Damone and legend has it that after abruptly leaving that group she retreated to the woods of Vermont to find herself.

She has plainly returned to the fold with a renewed fire in heart and lungs ready to belt out high energy music with brother Danny on drums and Mikey on bass.

The very title of the album announces an existentialist 'the time is now' philosophy , a take no prisoners spirit that also carried through into the recording process in Texas with the album being completed in two weeks.

The songs are optimistic without being brainless with the title track and Happy Birthday/Come On Home being the two stand out tracks. On the latter, the chorus of "feels like tonight's going to last forever" captures the blissed out mood.

Their pure pop sound harks back to the swinging U.S. pop of the 50s/ 60s, so it's no surprise that Weezer are cited as a prime influence (alongside noisier cousins My Bloody Valentine) . I'd also say that they share a lot in common with the current wave of Surfer-girl lo-fi pop of bands like Best Coast and Vivian Girls.

There's not much in the way of variety here but they more than make up for this with a spontaneous sense of purpose.
