The Shelsmusic label has put together an impressive roster of musical talent over than last couple of years, and Parliament of Owls are a worthy addition. From London, the core members are Owen Farrington and Les Seddon-Brown, with others musicians and vocalists appearing as and when required.

I was going to write a track by track review, but this album does not need it. From the birdsong and spoken word introduction, through to the birdsong closing the album 27 minutes later, there is not a bad moment. Even the cover of R.E.M.'s "The One I Love" fits in perfectly.

As for the music itself, the album sounds like the early morning captured on disc, with gentle, folk-y guitar melodies and whispered vocals creating a quiet, tranquil mood. There are touches of Simon and Garfunkel in there too - and this is a very good thing. There are a couple of instrumental tracks of a more electronica bent but they too are in keeping with what surrounds them.

There is a handmade, limited edition 2CD version with a second disc of Cignol remixes. Buy that, as the remixes are excellent and add an extra dimension to the original songs.

To sum up "Crows" in a few words - quiet, but sublime.
