I'm often curious to know what bands I've seen playing live sound like recorded. It's often the case that great live bands are something of a let-down when it comes to their studio work, the recorded medium failing to capture the energy or the special something that makes the live show exciting or memorable.
I can't say that seeing ABC Club live playing a support slot in Leeds last year made me all that eager to investigate their studio work. At the time, I thought they sounded ok, turning in a set of competent traditional English indie, but found the mannequin-like performance off-putting. It might have been nerves, of course, but looked more like it was intentional. The painted guy who stands in the high street with a 'wind-blown' umbrella has more motion.

This debut single has a little more movement. The guitars do jangle, but there's a restlessness about the percussion and a bluster about the guitar lines that provide a simmering tension between the music and Zandra Klievens' cool-to-the-point-of-bored vocals that makes this double A-side a promising start for the band.
