I suppose this is folk music of sorts. In its largely acoustic instrumentation, it's ostensibly a folk song. In its lyrical referencing and imagery, and the narrative nature of those lyrics, it's a folk song.
But 'Laura in the Water' is like no other folk song I've ever heard. It's not your wistful friendly folk, but the dark, nightmarish folk you might associate with Nick Cave. Only Extradition Order's take on folk is darker, rawer and riven with anguish. The words are howled, a cracked desperation and pain saturating every word. It's chilling. It's bloody brilliant.
