Review: 'Jack Rabbit Slim'
'Hairdos & Heartaches'

-  Label: 'Western Star Records'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '22nd March 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'WSRC038'

Our Rating:
Jack Rabbit Slim are an UK Rockabilly band, who formed in 2004. They have toured extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA and Hairdo's & Heartaches will be their 4th album.

Not being over familiar with the whole rockabilly scene, I was expecting something overtly punk or hardcore but this is not the case. This is no bad thing as it gives the music more mainstream appeal. At times, on "I Need You" and "Typhoon" for example, it sounds like Elvis fronting The Kinks, whereas "Hairdo's & Heartaches" (the song) is a mid-tempo Buzzcocks-ian track with jangly 1950s/60s guitars, and "Shake-Rag" is a pleasing blues-inspired number with plenty of harmonica and distorted guitars.

There is enough variety built into their fundamentally rockabilly sound to perhaps give them a breakthrough into the mainstream.

A enexpectedly enjoyable listen.
