A bit lo-fi, a bit slacker punk is the first impression Double Dagger make. 'Imitation is the Most Boring Form of Flattery' is rough and ready, a relatively simple drum / bass backing lumber through the verses before crunching guitars and cymbals galore crash in. 'Pillow Talk' is Fugazi meets the Wedding Present circa 'Bizarro', with plenty of angst and energy.
On 'Wolf in Sheep's Clothing', the angular discordance is exchanged for a louder, harsher sound, stop/start guitar riffs reminiscent of Shellac, with additional howls of feedback provide the foundations for some shouty vocals, delivered in true hardcore style. This follows through into 'Sleeping With the TV On', which starts off comparatively gently and then proceeds to build and build to the end.
The brief instrumental 'Song for S' concludes matters. What can I say? This is right up my street, and on that basis alone, I recommend it.
