I'm something of a fan of the split single, and it certainly provides a nice change from the currently ubiquitous double a-side. This is a pretty good example of what the split single is all about, giving a taster of two bands that compliment and contrast with one another.
Peter Parker combine a sound that sits somewhere between The Psychedelic Furs' early work (minus the sax) and the straining treble of some early Fall recordings, with some unpretentious, new-wavey female vocals that provide a nice twist. 'Pretty Livin'' is, in many respects, quite a rough and ready recording, but the 8-track analogue sound is a major part of the appeal. Retro cool.

The Sexual Objects' track, 'Outta Place Again,' is super lo-fi, but beneath the jumble and the almost absent production values, there's an off-kilter pop sensibility that's rather endearing. It's don't give a toss slacker indie at its best, reminiscent of Silver Jews or early Pavement, only without quite as much tape hiss. Definitely worth checking out.
