This has made my day. I've spent an age beefing about the wussification of metal, about the Nu-Metal pussies who come on all hard with their slabs of guitar that are pure distortion with no definition, then go all lame and melodic in the choruses. Finally, my faith has been restored. Fell On Black Days' debut five-tracker is totally full on, proper, relentless, dirty thumping metal.
Blastbeats, grinding guitars and guttural vocals from start to finish, 'Bring Out Your Dead' is twenty-one minutes of punishing, pulverising, angry, misanthropic thrash with a touch of the epic (that'll be the Faith No More influence, then, particularly evident on the tile track), complete with squealy guitar notes and half-tempo middle eights. Heavy and uncompromising, it's unashamedly old-school, and seriously powerful stuff.
