Review: 'Dead Confederate'
'Giving It All Away'

-  Label: 'Kartel Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '16th August 2010'

Our Rating:
'Giving It All Away' is, for the most part, a pleasant enough indie-rock number built around a lightly jangling, mid-paced guitar motif that bears a distinctly valve tone, which lends the track a 'classic' 'vintage' feel.

But pleasant, vintage and classic don't necessarily equate to a a great single, and 'Giving It All Away' lacks the real killer hook to make it a great single, and is also rather pedestrian to stand out. I'm sure as an album track it would be great. It's redeemed a bit in the closing thirty seconds, when there's a fuzzed-out meandering guitar solo that J. Mascis might knock out on a lazy day (any day, then), and I'm left wondering if Dead Confederate aren't holding back here.
