Review: 'This Drama'
'Tarantula Mata'

-  Album: 'Tarantula Mata' -  Label: 'Deep Elm Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '20th July 2010'

Our Rating:
A seven-track mini album, 'Tarantula Mata' was produced by Joby Ford, guitarist with The Bronx. Perhaps not surprisingly, then, This Drama serve up twenty minutes of straight-up, no-messin' US punk, delivered with swagger and big guitars cranked up to eleven. There's no time for pleasantries or lengthy intros, This Drama come straight in with all guns blazing on 'Espera Miseria,' and it sets the tone for the rest of the set.

For the most part 'Tarantula Mata' is a raucous and fast-paced affair, but '127 La Brea' and 'La Santera' demonstrate the band's knack for creating melody and hooky choruses without going all poppy. The closing twin assault of 'Seaside' and 'Hollywood Quema' really up the tempo and snarl to the finish line.

Short and to the point, 'Tarantula Mata' does the job and doesn't outstay its welcome.
