Review: 'Different Frequencies'
'Flicking Switches'

-  Label: 'Unpopular'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '23rd August 2010'-  Catalogue No: 'UPM006'

Our Rating:
Ok, so frankly I've had a gutful of electropop in recent months. Don't get me wrong, I'm not averse to the genre per se, but it feels like the airwaves are being submerged in a morass of mediocre, derivative pap, and with so much of this stuff out there, bands are going to have to work harder than ever to stand out from the crowd, and to convince me of their worth.

'Flicking Switches,' Different Frequencies' debut single places a strong emphasis on the pop element of electro-pop. However, what they think they've produced - 'Badly Drawn Boy meets New Order classic' contrasts perhaps subtly but significantly with the reality, which is 5ive meets Electronic.

A squelchy bass sound bounces along with a tinkly synth melody, and the lyrics really aren't all that enticing either: 'If you get the feeling that we've lost control / synchronise the need of your heart with your soul / I'm flicking switches in my head tonight.' Bad, churned-out pop slop we can live without.
