Review: 'FIND YOUR SMILE'
'FIND YOUR SMILE'

-  Label: 'www.myspace.com/findyoursmile'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'now available'

Our Rating:
All the way from Salem, Oregon, this is the work of lifelong friends and brothers Ben and Jordan Roach who, along with Scott Wurgler, offer their take on the ubiquitous, 'every-song-tells-a-story' school of rock. So their bunny-eared search for your grin begins....

Self-titled collection 'Find Your Smile' is loose, slightly apathetic and quite raw. Distortion reigns ever so slightly over the melancholy hurdy gurdy intro. of opener 'Short Story' as it suddenly picks up speed. When the narrative eventually begins, a Groundhog Day tale of obsession, misplaced empathy and high-gain hook-laden rock n' roll unfolds.

Stop-start signature 'Fys' lurches on the high rolling sonic sea as often as it drops out; this repeated cycle is reminiscent of garage jams everywhere.

The plot thickens six tracks in when the surreal-sounding analogue veneer of one-minute-forty-one second-long interlude 'Celilo' gives way to the faded magic of 'G'nite Circus', a 'Sergeant Pepper'-esque ballad with psychedelic misgivings.

Though the six-minute dirge of 'Bunny Ears' is forgettable if not tedious, there are a few interesting moments and attention grabbing episodes in this eleven-track record. Ultimately however, 'Find Your Smile' suffers somewhat at the hands of ham-fisted, overpolished production along with the lack of anything that could be called distinctive.
