'Hurt Less' is representative of the kind of rock-influenced drum 'n' bass that is their signature. It's upbeat, uplifting dance pop, propelled by stokning, fast-paced drums. The lyrics, which are highly repetitive, are vapid and cliche, and there's little concern for continuity, instead cobbling phrases together that fit with the beat:. 'Nobody's perfect / gotta find a way to get through this for another day... It's a temporary consequence / of my self-medication.' Jenna G's vocals (No relation to Gina, I assume) are the epitome of generic, too.
It's not as bad or as corny as anything by Pendulum, to whom The Qemists are often compared, but then that's not really a recommendation. What would actually make it hurt less is not having to endure seven versions back to back. Talk about overkill!
