Review: 'DANSETTE JUNIOR'
'PARANOID'

-  Label: 'Available from i-Tunes'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: 'August 2010'

Our Rating:
Dansette Junior hail from the Kentish Town area of North London, and comprise singer/songwriter Will Hunts, Johnny Mac on synths & bass, and Graham Gaffney on drums & machines. The band was born out of a chance meeting between Will and the others on the High Road. ‘Paranoid’ is their debut single, which is rooted firmly in the dance/dub/electropop genre.

As a debut, I thought that this was a great single, with excellent keyboard work, the drum & bass spot on, and some excellent lyrics which sum up the angsty, edgy feeling (probably caused by overindugence!): - “It's not easy when you think that everyone seems to be staring at you/ Walking the streets and you gaze at your feet/ Now are you feeling so blue/ Now walk away, as you can't face the day/ Yeah, there's something wrong.”

Hunts seems to have got this spot on and hit the nail on the head first time. This is a single clearly aimed at the dancefloor and I think that it will achieve some success.

The reason it only got six stars is that there are four versions of the song on the promo, which amounts to overkill, although, the ‘Blame remix’ of Paranoid for me was the best of the four, being faster, harder edged and one that would get any crowd up on their feet. Hopefully we will hear more from them soon so they can demonstrate their versatility as well as their ability.
