Review: 'Loadstar'
'Link to the Past / Rapidas'

-  Label: 'Ram Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '27th September 2010'

Our Rating:
Loadstar - not to be confused with Senser offshoot Lodestar, but a collaboration between Xample and Lomax - are gearing up to an album together, and are prefacing it with the release of 'Link to the Past.'

Sparse, atmospheric synths provide a subtle and seductive intro before breakneck drum 'n' bass beats rise from low in the mix to the fore. Then the bass comes on, a dense, growling and gritty sound with drive. I'm not usually a lover of D'n'B, but 'Link to the Past' is intelligent and well crafted, sliding in from a different angle from the norm.

Flipside 'Rapidas' is a great example of the kind of awful, club (and chart) friendly upbeat and uplifting vocal-led drum 'n' bass you're likely to find Zane Lowe jizzing on about how 'awesome' it is, and encapsulates everything that’s crap about the commercial end of the genre. Ah well, one out of two ain't bad.
