It must have been a pretty bad evening. Having laid down a few tracks on his own, with just vocals and keyboards, Mark had about half an album's worth of material, but he wanted a bit more meat to some of his set. So our man Mark rocked up with a few mates and a few beers at another studio, armed with some half-formed ideas for songs and the plan to record an album. And lo, so he did. He tonked away on the piano, while his mates - not bad musicians, but pressed for time and perhaps not entirely sold on the idea of a 'blend of progressive/chamber pop and classic adult contemporary' - did their session style bits, a guitar line here, a solo there, a sax break in the middle here and the end here... ok, so I don't know the real story. But perhaps my fictionalised version is closer to the truth than you might think.

This album, with the best will in the world, sounds uncomfortably amateurish, while also adopting a position that's so middle of the road that I fear Mr. Mansfield risks being hit by traffic travelling in both directions.
