Review: 'FOREIGN OFFICE'
'On Repeat'

-  Label: 'Quiet Life Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '8th November 2010'

Our Rating:
Their last release, the Warrior One remix of 'Leaving the House' didn't impress me much, and I gave it short shrift in my less than glowing review. But I sincerely believe in giving whatever comes my way a fair hearing - even Pendulum, believe it or not.

'On Repeat' is the kind of record that I should by rights detest. It's the absolute epitome of contrived 80s reconstruction, plastic music for the digital age. It's trebly, repetitive and frankly naff. It has a synth sound that was ubiquitous for a while, appearing on, well, everything from Sister Sledge to Five Star to the Thompson Twins and Human League, and wasn't even any good at the time. It's accompanied by some contemporary bleeps and squiggles and the sound is completed by semi-robotic processed vocals and an authentic Akai snare. Yes, it's horrible. But I kinda like it despite of all that. Or maybe because of it.

The endless chorus hook-line, 'stuck stuck on repeat' is guaranteed to implant itself in your brain before even the first play is complete. After the radio edit, the Dreamtrak Diamond Dub and James Delay's Russell Club Re-Rub have run consecutively, it's likely to become a long-term earworm, whether you like it or not. Better to just give in and enjoy it, because resistance is futile.
