The Playground have slipped out a succession of releases that have really grabbed my attention in the last few months, and Polly Mackey & The Pleasure Principle's commercial debut is another.
On the one hand, it's perhaps hard to identify what's specifically appealing about this single. It's anthemic and uplifting and boasts a big, sweeping chorus bursting with sumptuous melody, but then on the other hand, and if I'm being critical, it has elements of stadium rock and 80s Fleetwood Mac that should be an immediate turn-off. Ultimately, though, it all boils down to a superb execution and Polly Mackey's splendid vocals atop a nagging guitar line. What we have here is, quite simply, a great single. A pleasure indeed.
