Our Rating:
With a name like Dogshite, they're hardly destined for massive commercial success, but then, I very much doubt that this London-based DIY scuzzed-out punk 4-piece really give two craps about that. This eponymous three-track EP sounds like it was recorded on a three track (i.e. one of the old-school four-track portastudios with one of the tracks broken... my mates at uni had one of those. It certainly made them learn to 'bounce' tracks creatively). The result is a low-fi fizzy blast of trebly punk that's massively underproduced, raw and ragged, and frankly doesn't care. Sound quality is overrated: attitude is what counts.

'You Can't Control My Freedom' serves as a manifesto of sorts, a two fingers to authority and society at large. Nihilistic anarcho punk that's raw and vintage in lineage, it's a short sharp burst of energy topped with a nonchalant female vocal that's spot on for the style. It's the sound of rucks and squats and of London under Thatcher.

'Thingymijig' is pub-rock punk with a crazy blues harmonica and half-spoken cockernee geezah vocals which narrate the awkward moment when you run into someone you don't know that well and can't remember for the life of you what their name is. Simplicity is so underrated, you know. Things are wrapped up with 'Affirmative.' With the refrain 'five, six, seven, eight, life's so fuckin' great,' it's another chunk of sneering, sarcastic nihilism.

Rowdy, snotty and doomed to the local pub circuit, this is exactly what punk was, and should be, all about.
