Review: 'GOOD NATURED, THE'
'BE MY ANIMAL'

-  Label: 'KIDS RECORDS'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'November 2010'

Our Rating:
19 year old Sarah McIntosh hides under the moniker of The Good Natured. If I wrote music as filthy as this, I’d probably feel the need to conceal my identity too. The Grandparents will not be pleased.

Her second official release finds McIntosh calling out for a lover to become “her animal”. If that idea is perhaps to subtle for you the pre-chorus consists of the lyrics “I want some more, give me some more, what are we made for?”. While these sentiments capture the raw lustful nature of sexual attraction, there’s something particularly unnerving about the way McIntosh presents her ideas.

The clipped samples and methodical layering of instruments unfortunately take any sense of primal excitement away from the song. While it’s perfectly constructed (McIntosh undoubtedly possesses more of a natural song-writing ability than her more mainstream peers), as a representation of untamed sexuality it falls slightly flat.

Despite the tribal-esque drum beats of the chorus and the stuttering electric guitar that gives the song a sinister edge, in this instance McIntosh hasn’t quite translated her ideas successfully onto her electronic sound-scape. The overwhelming precision of the delivery leaves the listener cold.
