Review: 'KID ADRIFT'
'A4 IN ECSTASY'

-  Label: 'ISLAND'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'November 2010'

Our Rating:
Kid Adrift is primarily guitarist/songwriter Iain Campbell who comes from Clackmannanshire. He is supported by Peter Sene on synths, Becky Woolls on piano and backing vocals and Nico Triay on drums. Together they produce a thrilling racket. Described as being influenced by Aphex Twin and Nine Inch Nails, Kid Adrift's brand of alienated electronica sounds to me as very similar to Gary Numan when he was at the peak of his popularity.

'A4 in Ecstasy' starts off with a good pounding drumbeat and pulses, over which is interwoven a souring synth line that to me sounded similar to 'Airline' from Gary Numan's 'The Pleasure Principle'.This is no bad thing, and in fact suits the disaffected vocals:-"Right now I'm not myself, disconnected" and "We belong somewhere else."

I liked this track quite a lot from the first hearing. It is part of a three track E.P. that is available from Amazon, iTunes and all good music suppliers. The only criticism that I could level at this is that it would have been nice to have all three tracks on the CD as it is difficult to judge a band on the strength of just one track. However, if the other tracks are anywhere near as good as this, then they will be worth investing in.
