Review: 'BIG SEXY NOISE/ MANFLU'
'London, Corsica Studios, 9th December 2010'

-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave'

Our Rating:
Yes yet another appearence at the Corsica studios in the now long line of shows by Big Sexy Noise played there in the last couple of years or so.

First on were MANFLU who are a 5 piece of 2 Japanese girls and 3 white blokes who play almost grungey noise rock pretty well with songs about needing more dope and odd problems with your friends all with repeating droney riffs and some great off-key keyboards. It's just a pity I don't really have any of their songs stuck in my head afterwards.

In the last three weeks or so, two members of BIG SEXY NOISE have put out new albums, so you would have thought this show would have been to promote either Lydia Lunch's new album with Phillippe Petit Twist Of Fate or Terry Edwards album length tribute to Alex Chilton Cliches. Of course you'd be wrong as neither album was mentioned or any song from them played.

As this was a band effort and this band of 4 musical desperadoes don't play to the normal rules so much so that when there was a stage invasion and a girl practically molested Lydia during the second song (which I think was Doughboy) not only did Lydia not object but just went with the flow til the security arrived and the girl was allowed to leave the stage under her own steam.

Still after that the cute black Female security guard you wouldn't want to mess with stood watching at the back of the stage and managed to smile and smirk quite a bit! Well James Johnston was in fine form playing his guitar like a Baby Faced Killer and on a night when we had taken the tube underneath the riots less than a mile away from this gig, Lydia's hatred for politics was perfect as was much of Terry Edwards Keyboard playing only I wish he had played his sax more. As for Ian White, his drums just kept it where it needed to be. For Another Man Coming as Lydia made sure we knew she had another man coming while the bed is still warm.

They dipped deep into Lydia's back catalogue for The Drowning Of Lucy Hamilton: a song I don't think I've ever heard Lydia play live before. It was cool, as was The Gospel Singer and The Big Hit off the Big Sexy Noise album Your Love Don't pay My Rent, Well it don't. There were a few new songs in the set as well and they finished with an encore that they didn't go off for of Kill Your Sons that, as ever, Lydia has made her own and I would now hate to hear Lou Reed butcher it. The one song we wanted to hear again that they played last time was Big Willie White, still maybe they'll come to that the next time.

Hopefully the new Big Sexy Noise album will be out in the new year and as ever if you get the chance to catch this lot live don't miss it. You'll get a night of big sexy sleazy noise rock played with total conviction by 4 great underground heroes.
