Enora's debut single, a double A-side that takes two tracks from this, their self-released debut album recently caught my attention - enough for me to want to hear more.
Complex guitar motifs twists and squirm atop big, beefy power chords and double-pedal bass drumming to create an intense and intricately mapped post-hardcore aural assault over the course of an album that's ambitious and executed with precision. 'The Wolves' races from the starting blocks with all guns blazing, and it's a tightly-woven shot of adrenaline that really sets both the pace and the tone.
Whereas many bands of similar ilk either overdo the bass or otherwise render the sound to clean, Enora's sound is brighter, treblier than the usual, but that's actually no bad thing.
There are moments where 'Canis Lupus' is a little obvious in its juxtaposition of melodic vocals with shouted backing and guttural growls, as evidence on 'Where Have You Been,' but these moments are countered by an abundance of unpredictable twists and turns, and the lighter, more tuneful (or, from another angle, wimpier) sections are counterbalanced by others of real weight and density.

'Canis Lupus' is accessible, yet demonstrates enough brute force to give it an edge and to separate it from so many of the heavy yet melodic / melodic yet heavy bands that receive such heavy rotation on Kerrang! Radio and TV. An ambitious, aggressive and accomplished debut.
