Review: 'Huski'
'Wartime Widow'

-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '26th December 2010'

Our Rating:
Perhaps it's Maple Bee's vocals, but for some reason this bright, effervescent yet vaguely edgy slice of pop pie makes me think of Grange Hill. You know the scenario the way it plays out in children's television programs: the supposedly 'talented' singing teen meets someone and gets to fulfil their lifelong dream of recording a song - just the one - in a proper studio. Her mates all gather round and are blown away, while the producer and sound engineer are nodding away coolly, exchanges smug, knowing looks that infer that they're impressed.

The only trouble is, the song's crap, thrown together and poorly crafted, the production's not up to much and the vocals are rubbish, the cockney urchin does not possess the voice of an angel that anyone who heard it would marvel at, and in actual fact, sounds like a cockney urchin singing a bit flat while reverbed and EQd to high heaven.

'Wartime Widow' could be one of those songs, and while Huski are no S Club or North and South, they are perhaps the new Crush. Just say no.
