Review: 'South Central'
'The Day I Die'

-  Label: 'Egregore Records'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '14th March 2011'

Our Rating:
Stick every expansive dance synth sound cliche in the blender with some big beats, a grinding, snarling bassline, rock dynamics, and a couple of lines of inconsequential and insubstantial lyrics repeated endlessly over the top and the result is 'The Day I Die'. I'm not saying it's terrible, just that it sounds like countless other dance/rock crossover records. The last Linkin Park or Pendulum album, in fact.

The inevitable and obligatory slew of remixes are of variable quality. The Qemists remix is the pick of the bunch, a cranked-up, shuddering slab of growl and groove. The Prodigy rework is remarkable primarily for its being so unremarkable, and does little than bring the beats more to the fore, while the Rhythm Masters remix is noteworthy for bringing tedium to a new level.
