So much music, so little time... right now we're tripping over new bands, all vying for virtual space. The whole live music thing is inching toward saturation point with new venues cropping up all over, almost every one putting on bills of three or four perfectly competent bands every night of the week. The larger the city, the bigger the scene: the more venues, the more bands, the bigger the choice for punters... and the harder it is for bands to stand out.
Edinburgh quartet The Seven Deadly Sins play music that amalgamates punk, rock and indie. There.s nothing about any of this that suggests they might stand out, but somehow, they do. Perhaps it.s the fact they don't do bog-standard jangly indie or the kind of guitar-driven pop that passes as punk these days. Perhaps it's the garage-infused energy that permeates two of the three songs on this self-titled demo EP, which, if anything, benefits from the lack of polish and overproduction. Perhaps it's the fact they have tunes. Either way, their simple, unpretentious approach and knack for hooks differentiate them from the crowd, and that’s got to count for something.
