Review: 'DAS FLUFF'
'HAPPY PEOPLE/ HEY YOU'

-  Label: 'SO HAPPY MUSIC'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'March 2011'

Our Rating:
‘Happy People/Hey You’ is the debut single from DAS FLUFF, the London-based purveyors of electro sleaze pop. The band comprises Dawn Lintern on vocals, David Roberts on keyboards and Steve May on guitar, and their music definitely falls within the currently much in vogue electro-pop genre.

This is a really good debut that hopefully should be heard on dance floors around the U.K. very shortly. The double A-sided single shows two faces to Das Fluff, the first on ‘Happy People’ is the upbeat poppier side to the band, featuring great synth beats and a good guitar line. This is the sort of track that wouldn’t sound out of place alongside any of the electro-pop greats of the early 1980s. With an infectious chorus of:-
“Bring on the happy people; show me the happy people/ Find me the happy people, I need the happy people.” This could easily be a surprise summer hit in club land.

‘Hey You’ is a different kettle of fish altogether, with a far more heavier, oppressive approach, detailing the life of a fixated cyber-stalker, this is a track that immediately puts the listener ill at ease. Dawn Lintern manages to convey the sleazy side of this in much the same way that The Cramps’ Lux Interior did in their song about a telephone pervert ‘Under the Wires’, here Dawn is direct and pulls no punches:- “When my screen’s displaying what your fears are saying, about your fun and games.”

I’m glad this is being released as a double A side, as ‘Hey You’ is such a strong track. Both tunes, though, demonstrate that Das Fluff mean business.

Both songs are available to download from Das Fluff online
