‘Earthquake’ is the latest single from Bristol & Paris alliance THIS IS THE KIT. Formed in 2003, the band is Kate Stables (vocals, guitar, banjo) and Jesse Vernon (violin, guitar, bass, percussion).
This is a dreamy indie-pop track which builds, and grows on the listener, a bass heavy strum, with stripped back lyrics that are almost a chant:- “No-body saw, no-body saw, no-body follow.”
This is one that will be popular with fans of the band and of the indie-folk genre alike. The only thing that lets this release down (my usual complaint) is that is there any real need to have four mixes of the same track on one release?
The ‘Buddy Peace Faulty Lines remix’ sounds faulty, as if the CD was skipping and not playing correctly. ‘Plaisir De remix’ is better with a trance like beat and a good echo on the lyrics, which adds atmosphere.‘Fear Of Theydon remix’ with its electronic drum beats seems completely dance floor orientated. There, I sat through all of 'em.

Overall, quite a good release, but would have been better with a different track or two to bolster it up. C'mon kids, let's revive the poor old B-side!
