Review: 'Jerzey Street Band'
'Jerzey Steet Band'

-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: 'November 15th 2010'

Our Rating:
Born on the musically iconic streets of Manchester, England but raised on the soulful American sounds of the Counting Crows, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, the Jerzey Street Band is not your typical, dance-enhanced Mancunian musical project.

Formed around the song-writing vision of front-man Dave Wrobel, JSB are a self confessed freight train rock band influenced by a collective love of Country, Blues and Gospel music that is laced with a healthy dose of contemporary sounds and structures. In one sentence JSB is an Americana band with one eye firmly fixed on an ambitious wide-screen future and one eye on a glorious historical musical heritage.

The 4 core members that produce the soul driven alt-country guitar sound that define Jerzey Street Band have a past as colourful and diverse as their music and include a former geo-scientist (nicknamed The Professor), a recognized and praised West End actor and two brothers! The line-up of the band was expanded to further increase the depth of the JSB sound and a pedal steel player, 3rd guitarist and a piano/organ player all joined in late 2008. This 7 piece line up would go on to support the likes of New Jersey legends Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes, Alabama 3, Sandi Thom and Jon Allen before beginning to record their self-titled debut album at the start of 2009.

Stories of love, stolen moments, romance and thoughtful recollection are masterly weaved with the soul and conviction of a gifted storyteller on their debut album, producing alternative anthems for a generation of lost souls. Highlights include the stunning single Pale Blue River, the instantly catchy Reason To Speak, the slow-burning longing of Holly Grove and the achingly beautiful Give The Rivers Back To The Rain. It is an incredible journey of melodic and memorable rhetoric that will find its way to your heart, staying there long after you push stop on your stereo and welcome the dreams of the night by closing your eyes.
