A gloriously widescreen sonic panorama of guitars that soar and sweep over a bedrock of solid percussion, 'You Are the Winter' fits the definition of 'anthemic' like a tailor-made glove.
So why am I not bouncing with delight? Well, for a start, the vocals are pretty nondescript, and there's nothing about the track that really implants itself in the mind and sticks. Ordinarily, that in itself wouldn't matter: the sonic experience ought to be enough to carry it. But sweepingly anthemic indie rock has become to commonplace lately, and to expect every band who produces this sort of thing to inspire rapturous fervour would be unfeasible. More to the point, 'You Are The Winter' is just that bit too slick to carry any tangible emotional weight. It has the stadium-size production you'd expect from a band who've opened for The Boxer Rebellion and Coldplay, which no doubt gives the track a universality - which also equates to impersonality.
