Review: 'LYSACK, GLENN J.'
'Ecclectric Menagerie'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '13th February 2009'

Our Rating:
The business card for Glenn J. Lysack of Panama City Beach, Florida
reads "Classical guitar. Select engagements". Via an online link, he promises to bring a "touch of elegance to your wedding ceremony, dinner party or engagement party".

I can only think this three CD box set is intended as an elaborate musical calling card to advertise his services.

It is essentially a solo work although he gets some help with drums, violin and, on one track, sax (Fade to Melancholia).

This is clearly a labour of love for him but ends up being an endurance test for the listener. Thirty three tracks, and over two and half hours of anonymous music is enough to test the patience of a saint.

The only justification for such a mammoth release would be if there were a wide variety of themes and styles. Instead there is just an overdose of bland soft-rock guitar flourishes and 80s style prog/fusion noodling, together with a few snatches of Spanish guitar and occasional vocals.

It all grinds long in a passionless fashion like the musical equivalent of a Hallmark greeting card.
