Review: 'Hit Parade, The'
'There’s Something About Mary'

-  Label: 'JSH Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '19th April 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'JSH 11'

Our Rating:
The Hit Parade is, I’m told, ‘the non-du-guerre of Julian Henry, tireless pop enthusiast and writer of stuff about obscure bits of England’. I’m also led to believe that ‘There’s Something About Mary’ has nothing to do with the film of the same title. Well, good.

Fusing the key components of classic 60s pop and 80s indie, ‘There’s Something About Mary’ and flipside ‘The Boy Who Loves Brighter’ (a tribute to the band Brighter, who were signed to quintessential indie-pop label Sarah records) is a tuneful, clean, bright, succinct and janglesome slice of indie pop cherry pie. It’s pleasant enough, but a little too fey, frothy and sugary for my taste.
